Growing up in her parents’ independent arthouse movie theater, Kamrin Zoe Kuenzel developed an early fascination with the physical life of film—the reels, the fragments, the feeling of holding a story in your hands. That foundation, combined with a deep love of fashion and textiles, shapes a mixed-media practice built around recycled materials and found objects.
With a background in Fashion and Textile Management from NC State, Kuenzel approaches fabric as both artifact and evidence, something worn, inherited, and worth keeping. After witnessing the disappearance of 35mm film during the industry's shift to digital, Kuenzel began collecting abandoned reels as a form of quiet preservation. Her work celebrates what industries leave behind and the stories that outlast them, finding in discarded materials a record of how we lived, what we made, and what we choose to remember.
